iPhone 18 could have same design as iPhone 17, iPhone Air 2 launch uncertain

Apple’s iPhone 18 lineup is creating confusion with conflicting reports about design and launch dates. Now a new leak from Chinese tipster Fixed Focus Digital suggests the standard iPhone 18 will keep the same look as the iPhone 17, challenging earlier claims about design updates.

The tipster, citing industry sources, says Apple won’t make major design changes to the regular iPhone 18. This goes against previous reports that predicted a smaller Dynamic Island would come to all iPhone 18 models.

If accurate, the standard iPhone 18 would see only minor external updates. Apple has done this before, giving bigger design upgrades to Pro models while keeping standard versions mostly the same. The new leak suggests this strategy will continue with the iPhone 18 series.

iPhone Air 2 Launch Date Remains Uncertain

The same source claims Apple will follow its normal schedule for the iPhone Air 2, pointing to a possible September launch alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. This contradicts Mark Gurman’s earlier report from Bloomberg, which said the iPhone Air 2 might not come until early 2027.

There’s no agreement on this yet. It’s unclear if Apple will launch the iPhone Air 2 with the iPhone 18 Pro models in September or delay it for a later release.

Staggered Launch Strategy Still Possible

Recent leaks have suggested Apple might split the iPhone 18 launch into two events. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max could arrive in September, possibly with a foldable iPhone as well.

The standard iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 could come later, potentially in early 2027. This would be different from Apple’s typical single-event iPhone announcements. However, the new leak questions this plan, suggesting Apple may stick to its regular launch pattern instead.

What We Know About Specs

The iPhone 18 is expected to have a 6.27-inch LTPO display with 120Hz refresh rate. The iPhone Air 2 could get a slightly bigger 6.55-inch LTPO screen, also with 120Hz support.

All models should run Apple’s A20 or A20 Pro chips. Pricing will probably stay close to current iPhone 17 prices, though Apple hasn’t confirmed anything yet.
